"Bio-Detoxification"
Bio-detoxification is the process of internally cleansing the body's organs and digestive tract by removing accumulated toxins. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), over 35% of the food tested in 1998 contained pesticide residues. Fifty-three pesticides classified as "carcinogens" are presently registered for use on major crops, including apples, tomatoes, and potatoes. Additionally, more than 10,00 additives each year.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), more than 1,000,000 Americans drink water laced with pesticides. In 2002 alone, more than 4 billion pounds of chemicals were release into the ground, and over 260 million pounds of chemicals were discharged into surface water (i.e. lakes, river, and streams), making fish unsafe to eat, and water unsafe for swimming or drinking. Wow, that's a lot of stuff! More stuff than the body is capable of handling, and the nature of these toxins being chemicals, are equally difficult for the body to process. In addition, many of these toxins become concentrated, once they enter the body and principally in the liver.
Scientists from the World Health Organization (WTO) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) both indicate that chemicals in our air, water, and food cause between 60-80% of all cancers. Long-term exposure to pollution can result in genetic changes that affect growth, health, and behavior, and contribute to our susceptibility to diseases.
Common signs and symptoms of toxin buildup include the following: headaches, joint pain, fatigue, allergies, weak immune system, mood changes, constipation, sinus congestion, chronic backache, blood sugar problems, skin conditions, and hormonal problems.
Bio-detoxification takes place primarily in the liver. The liver is a key organ in our body's self defense system. Detoxification is largely accomplished in 2 phases. In phase 1, the body's enzymes activate the toxic substances to make them more accessible in phase 2. In phase 2, specific enzymes convert toxins into water soluble and harmless molecules that are then eliminated by the body.
The first step in a Bio-detoxification program is to assess the need for such a program by taking the SELF ASSESSMENT TEST. Take the first step by completing the following SELF ASSESSMENT TEST.
How Toxic Are You?
•1. Do you feel tired or fatigued?
•2. Do you feel dizzy, foggy-headed, or have trouble concentrating?
•3. Do you use coffee, cigarettes, candy, or soda to get "up?"
•4. Do you eat fast, fatty, processed, or fried foods?
•5. Do your bowels move less than twice a day?
•6. Do you experience intestinal gas and bloating, or constipation?
•7. Do you experience headaches or yeast infections?
•8. Do you live with, or near air and water pollution?
•9. Do you experience general headaches and pains, or arthritis?
•10. Do you have food allergies, or skin problems?
•11. Do you experience frequent back pain or sinus problems?
•12. Are you often exposed to chemicals, sedatives, or stimulants?
•13. Do you rarely exercise, feel sluggish, or overweight?
•14. Do you eat mostly organic, fresh foods?
•15. Do you use mostly water, vinegar, baking soda, or borax to clean with?
•16. Do you "air out" your office and bedroom for a few minutes every day?
•17. Do you have a shower filter?
•18. Have you installed a new filter in your heating/air conditioning unit in the past six months?
•19. Is your shampoo made of mostly water, herbs, plants, or vitamins?
•20. Do you use detergents that don't add chemical fragrances, stabilizers, or color fasteners?
•21. Have you done a cleansing program before?
If you answered "yes" to three or more of questions 1-13, OR "no" to more than three of questions 14-21, it would be desirable for you to purify your system of toxins.
